FAQs
-
A Speech and Language Therapist (SALT), is a trained healthcare professional specialising in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of speech, language and communication disorders.
Speech and Language Therapists are registered with the Health Care Professions Council.
-
Anyone with speech, language or communication difficulties may benefit from working with a Speech and Language Therapist.
At Thrive Communication Therapy we have experience working with children, teens and young adults.
-
An initial consultation will last around 90 minutes and will take place at home or in an educational setting.
During the session the therapist will take a case history to gain background information about early development. You will have the opportunity to share reports from any other professionals.
They will then carry out some assessment of speech, language and communication skills. This assessment will vary depending on the age and the needs of the client. For the majority of clients these activities will be completed in play activities.
The therapist will then verbally feedback observations and recommendations. You will receive a written 'summary of recommendations' outlining the session and next steps within 7 days.
-
There are no set number of treatment sessions. Following your initial consultation we will discuss recommendations for therapy and set functional goals.
The initial number and frequency of sessions will be discussed at this point. Your progress and goals will be reviewed collaboratively regularly.
-
Unfortunately no.
We know it can feel frustrating to have multiple assessments. We ask all of our individual clients to attend an initial consultation to complete a full case history and assessment to make our clinical recommendations for intervention. Our recommendations may differ from other services and it is important that you have all the information before making decisions about onward therapy.
-
At this time we do not have a clinic base.
This might change in the future, but for now we are only able to support you at home, online or in your educational setting.
-
We are able to work with Local Authorities and Case Managers to deliver SALT recommendations in EHCPs.
In order to confirm whether we can support your child, we will need to see their EHCP following your initial enquiry to check that we are a good clinical fit.
-
We are able to offer online therapy where clinically appropriate. We have experience working with children and adults online from all around the world and would be more than happy to discuss whether online therapy would be suitable for you.
-
Your child is entitled to their NHS input. We will work alongside your NHS therapist to create shared therapy goals to help you get the most from intervention.
